Firefighters Rescue Nine Ducklings In Stamford Stamford firefighters reunited nine ducklings with their mother after rescuing them from a catch basin on Summer Street Thursday, July 25. Engine Company 5 firefighters assisted by Stamford Animal Control officers removed the young ducks without incident under the watchful eye of their mother who stood nearby. Once reunited, the rescuers provided a safety escort for all ducks from Summer Street to Bridge Street, across Washington Boulevard and back into the Mill River. The robbery took place around 12:50 p.m. Monday at the bank on Summer Street, said Capt. Richard Conklin. Police officers will be rewarding pedestrians who obey safety laws with a $10 gift card to Acme markets. Nearly two dozen verbal warnings to pedestrians and three verbal warnings to drivers were issued at the intersections of Broad and Summer streets on Tuesday.  The Acme on High Ridge Road donated $1,000 worth of cards to Stamford police and fire departments for the initiative.
