The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has just issued a Health Alert warning that the rare illness, caused by a strain of Neisseria meningitidis bacteria, has a higher fatality rate than normally seen with meningococcal infections. Mosquitoes Carrying West Nile Virus Found in CT Mosquitoes carrying the West Nile virus have been confirmed in a Connecticut park, officials announced. The City of Hartford reported this week that two mosquitoes trapped at Keney Park on Tuesday, Sept. 14 tested positive for the virus. Two CT Residents, Including One In Fairfield County, Test Positive For West Nile Virus Two people in Connecticut have tested positive for the West Nile Virus. The Connecticut Department of Public Health announced Tuesday, Aug. 31, that two Connecticut residents from New Haven and Fairfield counties have tested positive for the virus; the first two cases this season. The patients are between 70-79 years of age and became ill during the third week of August with meningitis and meningoencephalitis, the department said.
