Darien's William Jerome Bellis, 92, Will Be Remembered As Good-Natured, Loyal, Dependable
William Jerome Bellis (Bill), of Darien, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023, at the age of 92 surrounded by his family. He bravely fought lung cancer for over a year. Bill was born on May 12, 1930, in New York, NY to the late William Bellis and Anne Gallagher Bellis. His parents were immigrants from Liverpool, England, and Donegal, Ireland, respectively. Bill graduated from Blessed Sacrament High School, in New Rochelle, where he played on the basketball and baseball teams. He went on to earn a BA in History from Iona College in 1953. New York Islander legend Mike Bossy has died at the age of 65 following a battle with lung cancer. Hockey Hall of Fame forward Mike Bossy announced that he has been diagnosed with lung cancer. A new study by various top universities has found that air pollution killed 8.7 million people globally in 2018 - about one in five deaths. The first sitting member of Congress has died from COVID-19. Rep. Ron Wright, a Republican representing the sixth district in Texas, had been hospitalized for two weeks before his death on Sunday, Feb. 6. He was 67 years old. Trumbull Man Sentenced For Illegally Removing Asbestos
A property owner who illegally removed asbestos from a Connecticut will avoid prison time after being sentenced in New Haven federal court. Aleks Rakaj, 46, of Trumbull, was sentenced to a term of one-year probation and fined $9,500 after pleading guilty in May to one count of illegal asbestos removal in violation of the Clean Air Act. Rakaj and his two cousins purchased a commercial property at 206-220 Wallace St. in New Haven, U.S. Attorney John Durham said. Two property owners in the area have been sentenced for their roles in the illegal and dangerous removal of asbestos in a building they were renovating.
