Divers have recovered the body of a man who went missing while swimming on Candlewood Lake in Fairfield County. The man, in his 20s, was found around 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 28 in the area of the lake in Brookfield -- near "Chicken Rock,'' -- where he went missing on Friday, June 24. Officials have identified a 24-year-old man whose body was found in Candlewood Lake after a weeks-long search for him. Hartford County resident Larry Kwokpo Chan, of Bristol, was identified as the man whose body was recovered from the lake on Thursday, June 16, according to an announcement from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection on Tuesday, June 21. The Connecticut State Police Dive Team has recovered the body amid a search for a 24-year-old man who went missing in a lake last month. The 24-year-old man was reported missing on Sunday, May 29, after he went from a vessel into Candlewood Lake, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection reported. Law enforcement authorities in Connecticut are investigating the fatal shooting of a mother bear in Fairfield County who left behind two cubs. Several police officers in Connecticut were hospitalized following a hazmat situation at an area home, authorities announced. In Hartford County, police responded to conduct a welfare check in Windsor at approximately 11 a.m. on Plymouth Street. Bird flu has been detected in wild ducks in Connecticut, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP). The agency announced on Monday, Feb. 28 that routine surveillance by DEEP biologists and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) staff detected the presence of avian flu in wild ducks during an inspection. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is seeking the public’s assistance as they look to track down suspects who illegally shot and abused a red-tailed hawk. In December, DEEP officers were alerted to the bird, who was located in New Haven County after being impaled by an arrow in the area of Thorson Road and North Mark Drive in Oxford late in December. Animal Control officers in Connecticut are warning residents to be on alert after bears reportedly got into an area chicken coop, killing at least two of them. In Fairfield County, the New Canaan Police Department issued a warning after bears killed multiple chickens as they prepare to fatten themselves up before hibernating for the winter.
