Young Darien Rower Meets Olympic Gold Medalist

DARIEN, Conn. – Olympic gold medalist and world rowing champion Erin Cafaro met with rowing fans and fitness buffs at Darien's Equinox on Saturday, June 26. Among those attending was rising Darien High School sophomore Juliet Ruhe, who attended the talk with her dad, Jeff.

Juliet, a novice rower at Norwalk's Connecticut Boat Club, had the opportunity to talk one-on-one with Cafaro about getting started in the sport and achieving the highest possible level of fitness. Cafaro also shared information on cross training and what it is like to compete for a spot on a World Champion or Olympic boat.

"I love getting out of training mode and talking about the life of rowing, which I love so much,” Erin said afterward. “To see someone like Juliet, who is just embarking on her rowing career, gets me excited and I know the future of USA Rowing is bright."

Cafaro and the U.S. National Team are currently competing at the Henley Royal Regatta outside of London. They then travel to the World Cup III in Lucerne, Switzerland, where they will try to qualify boats for London 2012. More information is available on www.usrowing.org.
