York Sweeps Bluefish in Final

The York Revolution won the Atlantic League Championship with a 5-4 win in 10 innings over the Bridgeport Bluefish Saturday at Harbor Yard. Ramon Castro was named MVP of the Championship Series, and York won its first title in franchise history with the 3-0 sweep in the best-of-five series. Bridgeport surrendered two three-run leads during the game.

Luis Gonzalez tossed six strong innings of one-run baseball in the victory. He allowed three hits and five walks while striking out seven. Antonio Alfonseca hurled an inning and gave up two runs. Jorge Julio came in and tossed two innings, but gave up an unearned run. Kevin Mannix (0-1) was assessed with the loss as the right-hander gave up the final tally in the 10th.

The Revolution pitched six shutout innings out of the bullpen, including two-thirds of an inning of shutout ball from Sean Stidfole (1-0). The righthander earned the victory while Michael Nix picked up the save.

Bridgeport started the scoring in the bottom of the first. Adam Greenberg led off with a walk. Consecutive singles by Tike Redman and Steve Moss plated Greenberg to put the Bluefish up 1-0. With runners at the corners, Ramon Castro booted a ground ball, which allowed the second run to score. Hiram Bocachica was credited with the RBI to extend the advantage to two.

In the fourth, the Bluefish added another run. Danny Putnam earned a pass and was pushed to second on a sacrifice bunt by Luis Rodriguez. A single to right by Brandon Chaves allowed Putnam to scoot home. Bridgeport led by three.

After the teams exchanged runs in the fourth, York scored four runs in the final three frames to take down the Bluefish. Castro came up with two RBIs, including the go-ahead sacrifice fly in the 10th.
