Wrestlers Aim for New England Honors

Wrestlers from Main Street Connect communities will be competing this weekend in the New England Championships at the New Haven Athletic Center. First-round matches are scheduled for Friday evening.

Norwalk’s Brandon Riggins, Stamford’s Ben Pierre-Saint, Westhill’s Pascal Medor, Darien’s Lars Remole, Greenwich’s Ben Ceci and Fairfield Warde’s Mike Sullivan will see action at New Haven.

Pierre-Saint and Ceci came close to winning State Open titles last weekend. Pierre-Saint lost in the 125-pound final to Tilbe Tyler of Nonnewaug, while Ceci dropped a 7-1 decision to Norman Aren of Bacon Academy at 189. Riggins captured third at 189 in the State Open, while Medor (103), Remole (140) and Sullivan (160) finished fourth.

The New England tournament features the top wrestlers in each weight class from Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Massachusetts and Connecticut. The competition begins at 5 p.m. Friday. The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m., and the finals begin at 7:30 p.m. The New England Sports Council website will be providing updates throughout the tournament.
