Whirlwind Wins Y Meet; Norwalk 4th

The Whirlwind Diving team from the New Canaan YMCA took first place and the Norwalk Y took fourth at last weekend's YMCA National Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Both teams feature divers from all around the region. Whirlwind, coach by Joe Somma, won the meet with 417 points. Norwalk was fourth with 145.

Whirlwind had an especially strong showing in the women's competition, where it totaled 310 points. Elizabeth Fitzpatrick of Darien won the 12-15 girls 3-meter competition while Meredith Jonker was third. Kyle Towbin was seventh. Fitzpatrick also won the 1-meter, with Jonker sixth and Towbin eighth. Fitzpatrick and Towbin went 2-3 in the platform dive.

Katie Warburg won the 16-21 women's 3-meter, followed by teammate Kara Capossela. Hannah Singer and Samantha Bloom finished fourth and fifth, and Norwalk's Christina Brasco was sixth. Warburg also won the 1-meter. Capossela grabbed  third followed by Singer and Brasco.

Lee Christensen took third for Whirlwind in the boys 12-15 1-meter. Teammate Kyle O'Donnell was fifth, and Norwalk's Robert McCrory was seventh. Norwalk's Tyler Pramer took second in the boys 16-21 1-meter, and Whirlwind's Connor Farrell was sixth. Christensen took third in the 3-meter, with O'Donnell sixth and McCrory seventh. Christensen also won the boys 12-15 platform.
