Westport Y Hosts Kids Triathlon

WESTPORT, Conn. – The second annual Strong Kids Triathlon will be held Sept. 18 at Staples High School. The event supports the Westport Weston Family YMCA's annual Strong Kids Campaign.

Kids age 6 to 9 will take part in a 75-meter swim, 1 1/4-mile bike race and 1/2-mile run. Children age 10 and older will compete in a 150-meter swim, 2 1/2-mile bike ride and 1-mile run. For the 6-and-under set, there is a 100-meter dash. Registration and check-in begin at 8 a.m. All participants receive a T-shirt and a medal.

"It's a fun, friendly event for the whole family to cheer the athletes on – and it's all for a good cause," says Jacquie Tumminia, the Family Y's senior director of aquatics and competitive swimming. She also is the coordinator for the Strong Kids Triathlon and Point-to-Point Compo Beach swim.

Joining the team effort this year is TD Bank as lead sponsor. Other sponsors include Advanced Radiology Consultants, 1-800 Plumber of Stamford, Willows Pediatrics, Bobby Q's and Cycle Dynamics.
