Teen, Father Ride To Fight Cancer

WESTPORT, Conn. – Westport teenager Marcus Russi and his father, Mark, will ride bikes Saturday to raise money for the new Smilow Cancer Center at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Russi, one of the country's top young triathletes, and his father will ride 100 miles in Closer to Free. The goal of the ride to raise money for the Smilow Cancer Center and create greater awareness of cancer care throughout Connecticut and Southern New England. The ride will begin at the Yale Bowl and pass through 12 Connecticut towns.

Mark Russi is a physician at Yale-New Haven. Walter Plate, Marcus' grandfather and the father of his mother, Elise, died in 1986 after a battle with cancer.
