Unbeaten Teams Meet in District 1 Playoffs

Two-time defending District 1 champion North Stamford meets undefeated National Lione Thursday at Springdale as the tournament heads into the final games of pool play.

North Stamford and National Lione are each 3-0 in the tournament in Pool A. Redding and Stamford American are 3-1 and 2-1 respectively. The top two teams in Pool A and Pool B advance to the semifinals next Wednesday at Springdale. North Stamford defeated National Lione in the 2010 championship game, 3-2.

In Pool B, Wilton and Darien American are 3-0 and meet on Saturday. Ridgefield National plays Wilton at Bill Terry Field in Wilton Thursday at 7:30, while Darien American hosts Norwalk at McGuane at 5:45 p.m.

In the 9- and 10-year-old tournament, Wilton (6-0) won Pool B while North Stamford (5-0) won Pool A. Both teams will play in the single elimination semifinals Friday at Scalzi Park in Stamford. Wilton meets Ridgefield National in the opening game at 5:30, while North Stamford meets Norwalk at 7:30. The semifinal winners meet Sunday at Scalzi at 7 p.m. The winner advances to the state tournament.

The 11-year-old District tournament is in its early stages. Darien National (2-0) and Wilton(1-0) are undefeated in Pool A, while Ridgefield National (2-0) is undefeated in Pool B.

In softball, Darien won the 12-year-old tournament and Greenwich won the Big League softball. The Redding/Easton 9- and 10-year-old team is 3-0 and plays its final pool play game Thursday against Danbury (2-1). Darien has finished pool play with a 3-1 record. The top two teams will play for the 9- and 10-year-old District 1 title on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Middlebrook School in Wilton.
