Liz Trond of the Connecticut Boat Club will have another team to coach. She has been named women's head coach of USRowing's junior national team. Trond replaces Justin Moore, who accepted the head coach position at Syracuse University this fall.
"I am honored and thrilled to be coaching the 2011 women's junior national team," said Trond. "After being a part of the coaching staff for the past five years under amazing head coaches, I am looking forward to this challenge and hope to continue building on our successes last summer."
Trond began rowing in 1989 and coaching in 1995. She has coached at Sacramento State University, Orange Coast College, Fairfield University, Norwalk River Rowing Association, Maritime Rowing Club, and in spring 2010 she founded Connecticut Boat Club. Trond has served as head coach of the U.S. Junior Women's Development Team and assistant coach for the U.S. Junior National Team for the past five years.
"Liz has played a key role, working at all levels within the junior women's national team system, in helping to shape what this program looks like today while helping to lay the foundation for the future," U.S. Junior National Team Development Director Steve Hargis said.
"Under her leadership, all of the rowers will learn skills that will make them faster rowers, [and she will] educate them about the collegiate rowing experience, create an atmosphere that allows the athletes to enjoy themselves, and further their personal development in areas such as working together as a group and all the other things that make involvement in sports a worthwhile endeavor."
Women's junior national team training sessions have not yet been announced. The 2011 World Rowing Junior Championships will take place Aug. 4-7 at Eton Dorney in the U.K.
