Some enterprising athletes have ventured elsewhere for their initial races of the season, and the Housatonic Valley Sprint Triathlon in Danbury on May 11 got the local season started. The racing season hits high gear this month, however, with triathlons scheduled for four of the five weekends in June.

Many triathletes will get in their first races this weekend. The Ridgefield Triathlon, which is sold out, starts at 7 a.m. Sunday at Martin Park. There is also a kids’ race Saturday. Some hardcore athletes will compete in the Revolution 3 Triathlon at Quassy Amusement Park in Middlebury. The Rev3 race includes a 56-mile bike ride and 13.1 mile run. Ridgefield is much shorter, with a 14-mile bike ride and a 3.1-mile run.

On June 9, Trifitness of Fairfield hosts the Seaside Sprint Triathlon in Bridgeport, and Targetraining hosts the Sherwood Island Sprint Triathlon on June 16. There are no triathlons in the county on June 22-23 – the popular Fairfield Half Marathon will be run that weekend. The month finishes with the Stamford KIC It Triathlon and Might Moss Half-Iron Triathlon in Norwalk on June 30.

There are also events for kids. The Greenwich Kids Triathlon is June 9, and the KIC It kids triathlon is on June 29. A new event this year is a family triathlon hosted by Trifitness on July 4 at Weston Middle School.
