FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. Tickets are still available for the seventh annual SportsNight awards dinner Monday, Oct 17, at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich at 6 p.m.
WTNH-Channel 8 sports director Noah Finz, a Greenwich resident, is the emcee for the evening.
There are six new Hall of Famers. Two were selected in each of the three wings of the hall, which is sponsored by the Fairfield County Sports Commission. The wings are the Jackie Robinson Professional, James O'Rourke Amateur and J. Walter Kennedy Community Service. In the professional category, the new inductees are John Bagley of Bridgeport and Bennett Salvatore of Stamford. The amateur wing selections are Joe DeSantis of Fairfield and Ceci Hopp St. Geme of Greenwich. Community service winners are Charlie Bentley of Bridgeport and the late Albie Loeffler of Westport.
The newest members of the Fairfield County Sports Hall of Fame and 15 Sports Persons of the Year from county communities will be recognized. Sports personalities slated to attend are former Yankees pitcher Tommy John; ex-New York Giants football player Bob Hyland; Lowes Moore, who played with the New Jersey Nets; former world boxing champion Travis Simms; and Wes Matthews, a two-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers.
