Three Divers Sweep County Crowns

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Divers from Stamford and Darien won two events apiece at the Fairfield County Swimming League championships Monday at the Patterson Club in Fairfield. A diver from Riverside won one event. 

Stamford's Sean Burston, competing for the Long Ridge Club, won 14-and-under titles on the 1- and 3-meter boards. Darien's Lizzie Fitzpatrick, diving for the Tokeneke Club, won in the girls 14-and-under competitions. And Darien's Jake Bowtell won the boys 17-and-under titles on both boards. Danielle DeNunzio of Riverside won the 1-meter competition for girls 17-and-under. 

In the boys 1-meter, Burston scored 301.3 points to edge James Hopper of Greenwich Country Club by over 20 points, Jackson McGoldrick of Roxbury finished third. Burston won the 3-meter title with 279.55 points, followed by Hopper and Timothy Luz of Newfield.

Fitzpatrick scored 285.5 points on the 3-meter, followed by Rachel Burston and Kirsten Parkinson, both of Long Ridge. Fitzpatrick's 270.95 edged Burston for the 1-meter crown, and Parkinson placed third.

Bowtell won the 1-meter with 368.35, followed by Justin Sodokoff of Burning Tree and Bobby Ross of New Canaan Field Club. In the 3-meter, Bowtell won with 385.8, followed by Sodokoff and Ross.

Fitzpatrick broke her own record in the 3-meter division, and missed by four points of breaking the 1-meter record set in 1971 by Jane O'Keefe.

In the girls 17-and-under, Danielle DeNunzio of Riverside won the 1-meter with 329.55, followed by Margaret Rogers of Silver Spring and Meredith Jonker of New Canaan Field Club. Rogers took the 3-meter, followed by Jonker and DeNunzio.

Complete results are on the FCSL website. The 12-and-under championships will be held Aug. 6 at Burning Tree, and the 10-and-under championships will be Aug. 11 at New Canaan Field Club.
