Stolarski Brothers Shine at Sports

Ed and Sheila Stolarski may need to build a room for the trophies and medals their three sons are winning. Thomas Stolarski rowed for the U.S. team in the World Rowing Junior Championships in the Czech Republic. He competed for Maritime Rowing Club and just started his freshman year at Trinity College. Twelve-year-old Edward presented himself on the swimming stage with state and county records. Sean Paul, 11, won his first golf title by capturing the 12-and-under club championship at Shorehaven Golf Club.

It was certainly a summer for each to remember.

Edward, an eighth-grader at Weston Middle School, set a state record for the Westport/Weston YMCA Water Rat swim team in the 12-and-under 50-meter backstroke. He also broke a Fairfield County Swimming League record in the event. He took down three county records, but because two came in dual meets, they were not recognized. Edward set three pool records at the New Canaan Field Club, and erased a record set nearly 25 years ago by Mark Sedlak in the 50 freestyle at the Lake Club in Wilton. Sedlak is now his coach.

"I broke my collarbone in 2009, and I decided I wanted to get really good at swimming,'' said Edward, who became the first Shore and Country Club swimmer to set a county record. "I decided to give up baseball this year, and that was a hard decision. I loved baseball."

Sean Paul also shined in swimming, but he had his brightest moment at Shorehaven, shooting a 48 for nine holes to take home the club championship. It was first year of playing competitive golf.

"My dad played golf all the time, and my brother,'' said Sean Paul, who is a sixth-grader at Weston Middle School. "I was really bad at it at first. I started to get good, and I really liked it."
