Staples Shuts Down Norwalk

Staples' pitcher David Speer has shut down a lot of teams during his career. He did it again Monday, fanning 11 and allowing just four hits in a 6-1 win over Norwalk. The Wreckers, ranked second in the latest New Haven Register poll, improved to 12-1 overall and 10-1 in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference.

Colin McCarthy had two hits and three RBIs for Staples. Ryan Burke had two hits, and Tyler Jacobs had two hits and scored two runs. Staples broke the game open with three runs in the sixth. Speer did not allow an earned run in going the distance.

Norwalk slipped to 7-5 overall and 7-3 in the FCIAC.
