STAMFORD, Conn. Defending champion Roxbury Swim Club will try for its fifth Fairfield County Swimming League title in six years Saturday when it hosts the league championship meet at 9 a.m.
Roxbury, the defending champion, has won 18 league titles since 1991. Rocky Point won the meet in 2009, snapping a three-year stranglehold by Roxbury, which is coached by Rick Lewis. The Stamford club won the Division 1 meet on Monday.
Roxbury brothers Jack and William Montesi are among the swimmers to watch in Saturday's championships. William, competing in the 8-and-under division, is the top seed in three events and Jack, in the 12-and-under age group, is the top seed in two events. Weston Field Club's Charlie Palsho is also the top seed in three events in the boys 10-and-under age division.
Rocky Point swimmer Gretchen Walsh and Greenwich Country Club's Kate Hazlett will be among the top girls. They set league records in divisional races this week. Palsho and the Montesi brothers also set league marks this week.
The other winners in divisional meets this week were the Lake Club in Division 2, Burning Tree in Division 4 and Tamarack in Division 5. The top 16 swimmers from divisional meets qualified for Saturday's finals. Times are posted on the leagues website.
