Stamford-based Arena Gymnasts Take Honors

The compulsory teams of Stamford-based Arena Gymnastics closed out another successful season by bringing home more than 35 team and individual medals from the state championships held at the University of Bridgeport last week.

For the third consecutive meet, Arena's Levels 4, 5 and 6 girls teams stormed the podium, coming away with team honors as well as several outstanding individual performances punctuated by two gymnasts: Ashlyn Wahl of Greenwich and Stamford's Sophia Casino scored rare gymnastics hat tricks by winning gold medals in three events.

Level 6 won its third team medal in as many weeks, taking team bronze and again being led by strong performances from its 11, 12 and 13 year old gymnasts. Wahl won her third consecutive all-around title highlighted by gold medals in vault, balance beam and floor exercise. Kate Kushner (New Canaan) grabbed silver medals on bars and in floor exercise.

Ilana Olin (Wilton) led the 12 year-olds by taking gold in the all-around, beam and on floor and winning the silver in vault. Eliza Donovan (Westport) grabbed gold on bars and finished third in the all-around.

Level 5 also brought home its third consecutive team medal, taking the bronze. Casino won gold in the 10-year-old all-around with first place finishes in bars, beam and on floor. Ten-year-old Sarah Klein (Old Greenwich) won silver in the all-around with silver medals on bars and floor and third on beam. Nine-year-old Jessie Olin (Wilton) won gold in the all-around, beam and on floor while grabbing silver on bars.

Level 4 struck team gold by sweeping the all-around with 8-year-old Julia Servas (Darien) winning gold, 10-year-old Ellie Marino (Riverside) taking the silver and 7-year-old Carlee Reid (Stamford) winning the bronze.

The gold medal-winning Level 4 team included: Carlee Reid (Stamford), Ellie Marino (Riverside), Julia Servas (Darien), Loni Foodman (Redding), Emily Cohen (Darien), Natalie Dayton (Old Greenwich), Lydia Donovan (Westport), Gabi Dinisoe (Norwalk), Katherine Stoker (Pound Ridge), Jackie Von Saher (Cos Cob) and Megan Chun (Rye).

The bronze-medal winning Level 5 team included: Sophia Casino (Stamford), Sarah Klein (Old Greenwich), Jessie Olin (Wilton), Nathalie Radtke (Rowayton), Kate Janik (Stamford) and Whitney Bryant (New Canaan).

The bronze-medal winning Level 6 team included: Ashlyn Wahl (Greenwich), Bianca Dinisoe (Norwalk), Eliza Donovan (Westport), Hannah Rose (Westport), Ilana Olin (Wilton) and Kate Kushner (New Canaan).
