St. Luke's Breezes Through Regional Quarterfinal

St. Luke's School might have the hottest boys basketball team in the state right now. Winners of eight in a row, including three thrilling Fairchester Athletic Association playoff games, the Storm blew through its first round opponent in the Class C New England Preparatory School Athletic Council tournament. St. Luke's trailed by three at halftime, but the seniors, led by Brandon Yarborough, came alive in the second half to trounce Berwick Academy, 83-67.

Berwick's 6-foot-8 center, Jason Gorman, proved problematic for St. Luke's, leading all scorers with 28 points. The Storm double-covered the Bulldogs' big man in the first half, allowing other Berwick players to get open, hitting on a barrage of three-pointers and giving Berwick an early lead. St. Luke's then turned its focus to the perimeter threat, and from then on, Gorman was the only threat for the Bulldogs.

Yarborough collected his second double-double in as many games with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Steve Johnston stayed hot with 15 points and five assists. Nick O'Meara broke double digits in scoring for the first time in his career, finishing with 12 points.

St. Luke's advances to the Class C NEPSAC semifinals, taking on Beaver Country Day School at Loomis Chaffee in Windsor on Friday at 5 p.m.
