Softball Team Finishes Strong

The CT Tradition South, a 16-and-under travel softball team made up of players from Stamford, Norwalk, New Canaan and other towns, played in national tournaments in South Carolina and North Carolina and posted impressive finishes.

In the National Softball Association World Series in Rock Hill, N.C., the Tradition finished ninth in a strong 49-team field. The team went 4-4 against some of the best competition in the country. After losing its first two games, Tradition South won four of its next five. It was finally eliminated with a 9-5 loss to the Legion of Doom from Missouri.

At the Summer Nationals in Myrtle Beach, the team went 3-0 in pool play and earned the No. 1 seed, but lost its first winners' bracket game. The Tradition hoped to make a run through the losers' bracket, but rain washed out the remainder of the tournament.

Tradition South finished the summer season with a 31-15 record. The season included three second place finishes and a ninth place finish at the NSA World Series.

Team members include Lindsey Schmid of New Canaan; Norwalk's Katie Schmidt; Stamford's Sammie Zeiss, Brittany Horn, Allison Macari, Allie Souza, Elizabeth Joseph, Eileen Tublin and Chelsea Sciaretta; Redding's Ann Dolan; and Weston's Emma Tragganese. The team is coached by Westhill's Tom Pia.
