Saugatuck Rowers Win 9 Races in N.J.

Saugatuck Rowing Club athletes won nine races at the Mercer Sprints in Mercer Lake, N.J., over the weekend.

Westport-based Saugatuck won two girls 2X races. Susan Greenberg and Alex Zadravec won their heat, as did Breezy Ferrara and Melly Markovic. Louisa Freeman won the 1X. Saugatuck's 4X girls team won with Nicoline Lomas, Freeman, Jo Gurman and Sam Smolka. The girls lightweight 4+ took top honors with Isabel Feldman, Georgia Pinter, Conor Cashel, Maya Schumer and Marissa Horn.

The girls novice 8+ cruised home in first with Lilly Powers, Alison Morrison, Olivia Prehodka, Christina Johnson, Michelle Muller, Allie Diamond, Gretta Dorsey, Felicity Cain and Kaitlyn McCann.

For the boys, Saugatuck's lightweight 2X team of Max Malec and Marco Grant captured first. Jake Esse and Jake Petterson won the boys 2X. The boys varsity 8+ won with Greg Zales, Remi Amadei, Max Gibson, Chris Babinec, Alex Vogt, Griffin Traynor, John Morrison, Marco Grant and Max Gibson.

Graham Anderson and Max Meyer-Bosse finished second in the boys 2X. The girls 4X also finished second with Greenberg, Zadravec, Ferrara and Markovic. The boys novice 8+ took second with Rebecca Joseph, Jeff Monahan, Ian O'Malley, Gene Tsai, Devin Dyson, Christoph Bub, Cameron Yates, Jansen Van Arsdale and Andrew Bruggeman. Jo Gurman and Georgia Pinter took third in the girls lightweight 2X.

Saugatuck rowers will be off this weekend before heading to Cherry Hill, N.J., for the Cooper Cup on May 1.
