Saugatuck Rowers Shine in Shelton Races

WESTPORT, Conn. – Saugatuck Rowing Club won two races and finished second in five others in a strong performance last weekend at the Head of the Housatonic Regatta at Indian Wells State Park in Shelton.

The highlight for Saugatuck was its victory in the Boys Varsity 8+. The crew included Greg Zales of New Canaan, Jake Esse of Greens Farms Academy, Jake Petterson, John Morrison, Jeff Monahan and Will Ritter of Westport, Chris Babinec of Weston, Duncan Campbell of Easton and Cameron Yates of Fairfield.

SRC’s other victory came from Southport’s Rosie Grinalds in the Girls Single. She was followed by teammate Alexa Zadravec.

Runner-up crews for Saugatuck included the Boys 4x with Jake Craymer and Christoph Bub of Staples, New Canaan’s Matt Parrino and Alec Lee of Fairfield.

The Boys and Girls Novice 8+ crews also finished second. The boys team included Matt Ziluca and Nick Balderson of Fairfield, Theo Aris and Connor O’Brien of Easton, John Hunter, Warren Schoor, Ian Grimes and Lucas Manning of Westport, and Ridgefield’s Jack Carlson. The Girls Novice 8+ was comprised of Westport’s Julia Onorato, Kate Rubin and Kendall Vogt, Fairfield’s Annie Eick and Erica Zadravec, Weston’s Adena Coste, Darien’s Felicity Cain and Ridgefield’s Jillian Baum and Kaitlyn McCann.

The Boys 4x also took third with Gene Tsai of Westport, Weston’s Devon Dyson, New Canaan’s Will Cromwell and Ridgefield’s Ian O’Malley.
