Slowing down is an inevitable part of the aging process, but runners can turn back the hands of time for a while at Tuesday nights Age Graded 5K.
Part of the 31st annual Summer Cross Country Series, the race, at at New Canaans Waveny Park, sends runners over a 3.1-mile course through the fields and trails of the park, but its after they finish that the twist kicks in.
Their finishing times are then computer-adjusted based on their age and gender, using tables compiled by the World Masters Athletics. For instance, a 55 year-old man who runs 24 minutes would get an age graded time of 20:09. The times are then rank ordered, and the fastest age graded runners receive prizes.
The race begins at 7 p.m., with registration opening at 6 p.m. Complete information is available on the Series website.
