Runners Shine at State Open

Runners from Fairfield led individual performances from Main Street Connect communities while Fairfield Prep's boys took fourth and Wilton's girls took fourth in Friday's State Open cross-country championships at Wickham Park in Manchester.

Fairfield Prep's Connor Rog took second in the boys race while Fairfield Warde's Harry Warnick was 12th. In the girls race, Caroline Edison of Warde finished 10th, and Ludlowe's Heather Moriarty was 13th. Weston's Kara Bucaro took 18th.

Prep finished with 175 points in the boys race to place fourth. Tolland won the race with 111 points. Darien's boys were 11th, and Staples was 17th. Ben Aldrich (22nd overall) led Staples' runners, while John Conley (28th overall) led Darien. Stephen Vento finished 26th overall for Weston.

Wilton finished fourth in the girls race with 196 points. Zoe Gaston's 30th place overall finish led the Warriors. Rebecca Craig (38th) and Alosha Southern (49th) were also among the top 50. Westhill's Nicole Ambrosecchio finished 63rd to lead Stamford runners.

Darien finished ninth with 281 points, and was led by Sarah Colon (62nd overall). Camille Matonis was 78th overall for Greenwich, and Ingrid Johnson was 79th overall for Staples.
