DARIEN, Conn. – One of Fairfield County's most enduring road races takes place Sunday in the 32nd annual Darien Road Race. The 10K run and 1.5 mile fun run begin at 1 p.m. at Pear Tree Point in Darien.

The race has raised more than $850,000 to support local community social services and cancer-support organizations. The race benefits The Community Fund of Darien; The Bennett Cancer Center at Stamford Hospital and The Whittingham Cancer Center at Norwalk Hospital.

Darien runners Brad Wellington (fourth), Ryan Kuhlman (fifth), Alan Hagander (eighth) and Brian Lloyd (ninth) also cracked the top 10.

Greenwich's Meredith Kalish, a former Darien High School standout, paced the women's field, followed by Dana Conrad of Norwalk and Jennie Hewitt of Darien. There were 315 finishers.

Other awards include the Jim Fixx Award to the runner who raises the most in contributions; the BMW bicycle award to the person who raises the most in contributions; and the Atria Darien Awards to the oldest and youngest runners in the 10K or fun run events.
