Runners Can Find Races in Greenwich, Fairfield

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – You can run in races in Greenwich and Fairfield this weekend as Fairfield County's recreation calendar starts to draw to a close.

There are also races next weekend in Greenwich and Fairfield, while some runners are also looking forward to the Pequot Runners Thanksgiving Day race. Many runners from the region are also in the final stages of preparing for fall marathons.

Sunday’s Beachfront Bushwhack and Max’s Mile at Tod’s Point in Greenwich begins at 9:30 a.m. Runners weave through secret trails and scenic beachfront paths while occasionally having to hurdle many bales and logs on the five-mile course.

The fee is $20 ahead of time and $25 on race day. The Beachfront Bushwhack is the eighth event of the year in the Volvo of Stamford Greenwich Cup series of 10 events. The final event is the three-mile Jingle Bell Jog on Dec. 11 at 9 a.m.

Max’s Mile is a one-mile kids’ race in memory of Maxwell Scotti. Entry fees for Max’s Mile are $15 ahead of time and $20 on race day.

Entry forms for both races may be obtained at www.threadsandtreads.com and at the Threads and Treads sporting goods store at 17 East Putnam Ave. in Greenwich.

A new race this year is Fairfield's Colony Grill Post Road Hot Oil 5k, which benefits Fairfield police and fire department employees. The race, which is limited to 700 runners, begins at 9 a.m. Runners can register online but there is no race-day registration.

The Run for Africa 10K is scheduled for Nov. 19 at 10 a.m. in Greenwich, and Sacred Heart University will host a 5K at 10 a.m. on the same day.

It’s still not too late to train for the popular Pequot Runners Thanksgiving Day five-mile race, which begins at 8:15 a.m., in Southport. Last year, 3,980 runners finished the race. Another Thanksgiving day race is the six-mile Gateway Gobbler at 8 a.m. in Greenwich.
