Run in Weston, Wilton or Greenwich This Weekend

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – One of the best running weekends of the year is on tap in Fairfield County as runners can choose to stand on starting lines in Weston, Wilton and Greenwich.

The popular Weston Memorial Day Race 5K and Kids Fun Run starts at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Weston High School. The Get Smart for Wilton 5K begins at 9 a.m. Sunday, and the Jim Fixx Memorial 5-mile road race begins at 8:15 a.m. Monday in Greenwich.

The 19th annual race in Weston supports the Weston High School PTO. The race has been popular among Weston residents, who make up a significant percentage of the field. Zack Schwartz of Newtown won last year’s race, while Meredith Anand of Easton was the women’s winner. There were 635 finishers in last year’s race.

The race in Wilton benefits the Wilton Education Foundation. The race begins at 9 a.m., with preregistration under way at 8 a.m. Norwalk’s Noredine Abdelfateh won the men’s race last year, while Mary Zengo paced the women’s field.

The 48th edition of the Jim Fixx race in Greenwich honors the man considered to be the father of the running boom. He was the author of the book "The Complete Book of Running" in 1972, which helped popularize the sport. He died in 1984, but the race has been one of the most enduring in the state. Abdelfateh won last year’s race, and Meredith Kalish led the women’s field. There were 206 finishers.
