Recreational Races Abound This Weekend

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Running events in Norwalk and Westport and multi-sport competitions in Darien and Greenwich are among the alternatives for recreational athletes this weekend.

In Darien, the ITPMAN Swim.Run for ITP and the ITP Kids Splash and Dash begins at Weed Beach at 7 a.m. The events replace the ITPMan Triathlon, which organizers hope will return next year. Athletes can choose swimming or running, or a combination swimming and running. The kids event at 9:30 is a 100-yard swim and half-mile run. Visit the event website for complete details.

In Norwalk, the Lightfoot Road Runners host the 9-mile race beginning at 8 a.m. at Calf Pasture Beach. The race is the Ian Eaccarino Memorial, and there is a also a 5K health walk. The race is dedicated to Eaccarino, the son of Ginger and Larry Katz, who passed away 15 years ago after an drug overdose. Ginger Katz is the CEO and founder of the Courage to Speak Foundation.

The weekly race hosted by the Westport Road Runners is a 5.85-mile race at Compo Beach beginning Saturday at 8 a.m. The race is the seventh in the 10-race series, which culminates with a 10-miler on Sept. 3.

Triathletes journey to Greenwich Sunday for the Volvo of Stamford Greenwich Cup. The race begins at 6:30 a.m. at Tod's Point. The race includes a half-mile swim, 15-mile bike and three-mile run.
