FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. - The rain that soaked the area Wednesday has forced a five-day postponement of the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference cross country championships, originally scheduled for Thursday at Waveny Park in New Canaan.
"The ground was already wet in some of the low-lying areas because of the wet fall we've had, and it won't dry out in a day," said Steve Benko, head of New Canaan's Parks and Recreation Department.
The originally scheduled rain date of Friday became unavailable due to a conflict with the opening events of New Canaan's homecoming weekend, as well as the possibility the fields would still be muddy. With fair weather in the forecast through Monday, the fields should be dry.
