NEW YORK, N.Y. ? Mayor Michael Bloomberg and sponsors of the ING New York City Marathon have responded to critics seeking postponement of the race by dedicating the event to the communities and families impacted by Hurricane Sandy. The race will take place Sunday as scheduled, beginning in Staten Island.
The New York City Marathon will start Sunday in Staten Island at the entrance to the Verrazano Bridge.

Fifty-six percent say the race should be run after the city has recovered, 22 percent say it should be run next week and 22 percent want the race to run as scheduled.
