Montreal's Max Pacioretty, a New Canaan native who was injured after being hit by Boston's Zdeno Chara, could be back in action much sooner than expected.
Montreal coach Jacques Martin said Pacioretty, who was injured on March 8, will be allowed to begin working out a week from Saturday. Pacioretty could begin taking contact from teammates in 3-5 weeks, and may be available for the playoffs.
Pacioretty was wheeled off on a stretcher after the hit, in which Chara checked the Montreal forward into a stanchion by a team bench. Martin said Pacioretty will remain on complete rest until March 26.
