Oscar Castillo came close, before, to winning the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference swimming championship. Thursday night, the senior for the Norwalk/Brien McMahon cooperative team reached the top of the podium.
Castillo won the 100 backstroke in 54.56 seconds for the programs only victory at the meet, which was held at Greenwich High School. He come in fifth in the 100 butterfly and helped the 200 medley relay team to a fourth-place finish. Tom DiGuglielmo, Dan Faugno-Fusci and Jon Ospina joined Castillo on the relay team.
Greenwich captured the team championship with 408 points. Greenwich has won the league title 39 of the past 40 years.
