Nrra Crowns Challenge Winners

The Norwalk River Rowing Association Community Challenge made a huge splash in its second year drawing about 170 rowers, many of them who were trying the sport for the first time. Severe weather held off and rowers raced for glory without a drop of rain in sight.

Rowers with previous experience competed in the Defender Class, while the more novice rowers, the Challenger Class, got six weeks of training from the NRRA's coaches leading up to the event.

The day consisted of three sections: Heats, Finals, and the Directors' Challenge. Heats determined who moved on to finals. The Directors' Challenge was a fun race between the fastest 8-person team, the fastest 4-person team, and a team made up of the NRRA board of directors.

Team Motion in the Ocean, made up of teachers from Jefferson Elementary School, eked out a win in the Challenger Class Female Eight-Person race by one second with a time of 1:28. The Greenwich Crewsaders, employees of Greenwich Associates, won the Challenger Class Female Four-Person race with a time of 1:39. Employees of Bridgewater Associates in Westport made up Team Wildebeast, which won the Challenger Class Mixed Eight-Person race finishing at 1:12.

Motley Crew, a team of teachers from Naramake Elementary School, won the Defender Class Mixed Eight-Person race clocking in at 1:12. Team Frank, also made up employees of Bridgewater Associates, took the Defender Class Four-Person race with a time of 1:15

For the final race of the day, Team Wildebeast and Team Frank blew the NRRA board of directors out of the water topping them by almost 20 seconds.
