The 17-year-old, who plays regularly at Oak Hills in Norwalk, was the only player in the field to finish under par at Danbury’s famed Richter Park Golf Course, and he credits his training at The First Tee at Fairchild Wheeler as helping him with the victory.

“It does a lot of great things with golf, but what it really does is teach you life skills,” said Henny. “It really helps me with my mental game, being patient on the course, and just having a better attitude in general.”

As the winner, Henny earned an exemption into the Met Amateur at the Stanwich Club in Greenwich next month, and the Ike Championship next year.

Richter Park, a nationally recognized municipal golf course, has hosted the MGA/MetLife tourney six times. The scenic course is a par 72 and plays a challenging 6,723 yards.

“I struck the ball extremely well, especially in the second round," said Henny. "I think I hit 17 greens in the second round. I played really steady, was happy with my course management, and was able to limit my bogeys.”

Next up for Henny is next week’s Met Junior and the U.S. Junior Amateur in addition to the Met Amateur.
