NORWALK, Conn. Norwalk's Julie Heaphy enjoys running on the roads in her hometown and she has the hardware to prove it.
Heaphy, who won the Mother's Day 10K last month at Calf Pasture Beach, ruled the roads again Saturday in the 34th annual Lightfoot Running Club 3-mile race at Norwalk High School. She covered the distance in 17:38 and finished fifth overall in a field of 199 finishers. Heaphy, 29, tied a 29-year-old age group record set by Dede Grace in 1982. She was 14 seconds behind the course record of 17:24 set in 2001 by Helen Merkle.
Ansonia's Tim Milenkevich won the race in 15:29, followed by Norwalk's Tyler Agostino, a senior at Fairfield Prep, who crossed in 16:48. Sean Battis of Norwalk was third in 17:34.
Greenwich's Meredith Kalish was second among women in 18:49, followed by Yukiko Nishide of Rye, N.Y., in 19:40.
Age group winners from Main Street Connect communities included Kelly Russo, female 16-18; Sean Mehner, Norwalk, male 30-39; Roger D'Agostin, male 40-49; Emmy Stocker, Cos Cob, 50-59; and Roy Van Eick, men 60-69. Complete results are available online. The race is the first in the Lightfoot Runners Summer Series. The next race is a 5-miler July 9 beginning at 8 a.m. at Cranbury School.
