The goal of this three-week camp is to provide training and experience to athletes with the potential to contribute to the USRowing National Team in future years.
The selection process for the USRowing Development camp is highly competitive.
More than 400 boys age 13 to 15 who met the criteria of being 6 feet, 2 inches or taller and having a sub-seven minute 2K applied to train at the camp.
USRowing selected only 35 boys, including McDonough and Petreski, who have been racing on the varsity team for Norwalk River Rowing with their coach Yuri Kolomiets for less than a year.
This developmental camp began Monday at Bates College in Maine and goes through July 5. After completing their training, McDonough and Petreski plan to return to their team at Norwalk River Rowing and compete in the USRowing Club National Championships in July.
