Norwalk Riptide 12s Win Softball Championship

NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk Riptide 12-and-under softball team won the B Division of the Fairfield County Fastpitch Softball League with a 11-4 win versus Bethel in the championship game. The Riptide finished the tournament 5-0.

In the title game, Norwalk broke open a tight game in the fifth inning. Dina DiBlasio, Mackenzie Lowden, Gabby Catino, Keara Meyerson, Skylar Suda and Brianny Garcia led the offense. Jessica Otto, Brenda Garcia and Jillian Howe made good defense plays.

Norwalk opened the tournament with three pool play wins. In a 10-6 win against New Milford, Annalise Icatar and Brianny Garcia shared mound duties while DiBlasio had two hits. Otto, Meyerson and Catino also were standouts.

Norwalk nipped Bethel, 5-4, in its second pool play game. Icatar pitched well while Lowden and Julie Sferlazza also were standouts. Norwalk led Darien ’00, 5-4, in its final pool play game before it was canceled by rain.

On elimination day, Norwalk started strong with an 11-0 win against New Milford behind the pitching of Icatar and Brenda Garcia. Sferlazza, DiBlasio, and Tatyanna Molina paced the offense.

Riptide then defeated the Darien Tidal Wave 99’s in the semifinals, 4-3. Brianny Garcia went the distance on the mound. Jillian Howe paced the offense, and Icatar and DiBlasio ended the game in walk-off fashion with back-to-back hits in the bottom of the last inning.
