Norwalk Ripken 9-Year-Old Stars Begin District Play

NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk Cal Ripken 9-year-old All-Stars open District 1 Tournament action Sunday at 11 a.m. at Fox Run School in Norwalk. They play the winner of Saturday’s game between Stratford and New Canaan.

The winner of the District 1 tournament advances to the state tournament beginning July 21 in New Milford. Norwalk went 2-2 in a Jimmy Fund Tournament last month in Bethel, and is 4-4-1 in a summer league program.

Norwalk defeated Bethel, 13-0, and Brookfield, 17-3, in Jimmy Fund play. Daniel Goodnow and Javier Gonzalez teamed up on the mound in the win over Brookfield, while Zaire Profit, Owen Liscio and Bryan Lowden delivered clutch RBIs. Kobi Agard reached base three times.

Against Bethel, Gonzalez, Goodnow and Justin McNamara pitched well. Hitting stars included Ben Boccanfuso, Brian Ehlers, Brandon Miller and Joe Druin. Profit, Lowden and Liscio continued their hot hitting.

Norwalk lost to Newtown, 11-1, and then was eliminated with a 10-9 setback to New Milford in the Jimmy Fund tourney. Jacob Feinstein’s two-run single helped Norwalk stay close.
