Norwalk Man Will Coach National Rowing Team

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Norwalk’s Yan Vengerovskiy, the head coach and owner at Maritime Rowing Club, has been named the head coach for the Men’s Under 23 National Team Sculling Team. The squad will include three former Martime rowers and a former rower at Saugatuck Rowing Club in Westport.

Vengerovskiy will run the camp at Maritime Rowing Club beginning in June. He will select the men’s quadruple sculls that will compete at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships in July in Lithuania. In addition, the camp may select men’s double sculls crews to compete at the U23 National Team Trials from June 24-27 in West Windsor, N.H.

Among the rowers invited to the camp are former Maritime members Scott Yanoff of Wilton, Carter Aronson of Rye and Ben Dann of Pound Ridge. Yanoff is a freshman at George Washington. Dann and Aronson are current members of Brown University’s crew team, which is ranked No. 4 in the country. Max Meyer-Bosse, a freshman at Harvard, has also been invited to the U23 camp.

“This is a great honor,’’ said Vengerovskiy, who received USRowing’s John J. Carlin Service Award last year along with his wife, Olga. “I’m thrilled to be a part of it, but it’s also a big responsibility.”

The athletes will stay at Norwalk homes and practice on the Norwalk River.
