Norwalk Loses Slugfest to New Canaan

Norwalk High School's baseball team had New Canaan pitchers on the ropes several times Monday, but couldn't capitalize on the opportunities. The Rams made the most of their chances, and that was the difference as New Canaan escaped with a 9-6 victory at Malmquist Field.

Norwalk (1-3) twice had the bases loaded with none out, but couldn't push across runs. "We had some opportunities but we left a lot of guys on base,'' coach Angelo Bruno said. "You can't fault them for not trying. They did the best they could. We'll find a hole here and there and start to score some runs."

Spencer Jacoby and James Cooksey had three hits for Norwalk, while Leon Fleming and Thomas Sullivan ripped triples and Kevin Daniele slammed a double. New Canaan scored two in the first against Jonathan Cohen, who lasted just three innings and allowed six hits. The Bears battled back to tie it a 4-4 after five innings before New Canaan scored three in the sixth off of John Lauttenbach and two in the seventh off of Will Marr. Lauttenbach

Cohen, a senior left-hander is 0-2 and the Bears are counting on him to rebound. "He takes a lot on his shoulders,'' Bruno said. "He didn't have his best day, but baseball is a team game. We have to pick him up."
