NORWALK, Conn. The Norwalk-based Xtreme Cheer team won first place in one division and third in two others in the Beast of the East competition last weekend in Hartford.
Xtremes Junior level 3 team, Shimmer, won first place in a field of six teams from Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts. Shimmer is a 20-member girls team ages 14-and-under.
Members of Shimmer include Norwalks Chelsey Martylewski, Deanna Magee, Alexa Cassar, Sophia Buitrago and K.K. Benaduci; Westports Samantha Schieffelin and Samantha Troy; Stamfords Lana Foglio and Morgan Personette; Greenwichs Cameron Monette; Lauren Pelus of Darien; New Canaans Carson Allsteadt; Fairfields Nicole Wamser; Wiltons Jessie Favarolo; West Havens Lisa Balls; and Oranges Elle Chukwu. Katie McKinnon and Shylin Santana also compete for the Shimmer.
Xtremes 18-and-under co-ed team Blaze took third out of an 8-team field in the two-day event. Shine, an 18-and-under Level 2 all-girls team, also finished third.
The cheerleaders are preparing for their biggest events of the season, the U.S. Spirit National Championships in Orlando, Fla., in March and the United State All-Star Federation world championships in April.
Xtreme Cheer is expanding to a facility in Hopewell Junction, N.Y. It plans a grand opening at Angies Gymnastics on Feb. 18 from 1 to 5 p.m. Xtreme Cheer is coached by Mike and Dana Talbot. Find out more about the team on its website.
