The Norwalk Biddy sixth-grade boys basketball team won the BB bracket of the Fairfield County Basketball League on Saturday with a 50-49 victory over Redding at Darien High School.
Khris Little, Donta Backman and Mile McQuillen led a balanced scoring attack for Norwalk, which won three straight tournament games after winning just four times during the regular season. Griffin Root and Hugh Clyne did a tremendous job handling and distributing the basketball, while Karl Johnson and Chris Giordano added rebounding and defensive tenacity. Johnson scored the game-winning basket in Saturday's game.
Norwalk survived three tight tournament games to capture the title. It defeated the Darien YMCA White, 42-41, in its quarterfinal game and then slipped past St. Mary's of Ridgefield, 42-38.
The sixth-grade team's championship gave the Norwalk Biddy League two league champions. Its seventh-graders also won a title Saturday.
Norwalk Biddy Basketball will hold tryouts Saturday for sixth and seventh graders for its summer travel teams. Tryouts are from 2-3 p.m. at Ben Franklin School.
