Norwalk-Based Team Takes Medals at N.Y. Regatta

NORWALK, Conn. – Despite rough and windy conditions on Saratoga Lake last weekend, rowers from the Norwalk-based Connecticut Boat Club performed well in the Saratoga Invitational regatta.

Entries totaled more than 935, making it one of the largest junior regattas in the Northeast and attracting a strong field. Although other teams flipped their boats and were disqualified because of the wind, the all-girl crews for Connecticut Boat Club held a straight line to a number of strong wins. Every member of the team won a medal, and many won more than one. CBC raced in three flights Friday with the Varsity 2 boats coming in second in two and fourth in another.

On Saturday, CBC’s Varsity 8 and Novice 4 each took first. The Varsity quad finished fourth. Saturday afternoon racing was canceled because of high wins.

Sunday was a big day for CBC. The team participated in 10 races, taking first in Novice 8 and Varsity 4, three seconds in Varsity 8s, a second in Freshman 8, and thirds for the Varsity 4 and Novice 8. CBC’s Varsity 8 rowed a strong race Saturday, taking home the gold medal. On Sunday, the Varsity 4 took fourth place against a strong field, including some crews CBC had previously beaten. CBC Novice A and B boats won an impressive first and third in the Novice event against some teams that had as many as 4 Novice boats. CBC athletes also performed strongly in JV, 3V, 2x, 4x (sculling) and 2 (pairs, sweep), winning medals for each.
