Nine young divers representing the Norwalk YMCA will compete this weekend at the YMCA National diving meet in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
These divers train year round to qualify to compete on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards at national level meets. Head coach of Next Generation Diving is Chris Bergere, who is also the head diving coach at Yale University.
Bergere has experience coaching on the national and international levels, having coached at the World University Games in 2009 and at the Olympic Trials in 2004. Bergere's expertise has led him to be chosen often as a judge at world class meets, including the World Synchro Diving Trials in Tallahassee, Fla., in May. Jeanine Oburchay also coaches Next Generation Diving, representing the Norwalk YMCA.
The divers participating in the meet are: Schaefer Andrews of Westport; Hannah Schroeder of Weston; Dayna Chucta of Prospect; Kaitlyn Beaver of Hamden; Jessica Horn of Southbury; Cory Schultz of Milford; Billy Moran of Norwalk; Robert McCrory of Fairfield; and Liam Simmons of Weston.
