New Course, Chilly Temps on Tap for Fairfield Race

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Runners in the Boston Buildup Series will find a new course and frigid conditions for Sunday’s third leg of the four-race series: a 20-kilometer event in Fairfield.

The race begins at 9:15 a.m. at Tomlinson Middle School in Fairfield. The site is a new venue for the venerable series, which is in its 34th year. Previously, the race started at the Southport Railroad Station. The new location will feature more parking, and the course will be slightly less challenging than the previous circuit, which included some grinding hills.

While the course may be easier, the conditions are expected to be the worse. The opening 10K and the 15K in Ridgefield on Jan. 29 were run in near ideal temperatures for January in New England. Sunday is expected to be cold and windy, with wind-chill temperatures approaching zero.

Cos Cob’s Anja Krieger-Redwood has won the first two races in the women’s division. Trumbull’s Matt Klein leads the men’s series after winning the 15K and finishing second in the 10K.
