NEW CANAAN, Conn. The recreational running scene gets off to an early start this weekend with the All Out for Autism 5k scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. in New Canaan. Races in Norwalk and Westport are scheduled for Saturday.
A women's triathlon and duathlon that had been scheduled for Sunday in Norwalk has been cancelled due to Hurricane Irene.
The New Canaan race begins at the New Balance store at 128 Main St. in New Canaan. There is also a 1K walk. Runners can register at the store.
On Saturday, the Lightfoot Summer Series resumes with an 11-mile race beginning at 8 a.m. at Silvermine Elementary School. The race is the final event in the five-race series. Tim Milenkevich leads the men's field in the series standings and Meredith Kalish leads the women. Lightfoot's last race of the year is the Sam Elpern Half Marathon scheduled for Sept. 10.
The penultimate race in the Westport Summer Series is a 9.3-mile race beginning at 8 a.m. at Compo Beach. The series concludes with a 10 miler on Sept. 3.
A 5K race in Milford scheduled for Sunday has also been postponed, according to race website hitekracing.com. No makeup date has been announced for that race. Runners in the Norwalk and Westport race should check the respective websites in the event of a late cancellation.
