Monteiro's Death Shocks, Saddens Sports Community

Marco Monteiro’s sudden death shook the Norwalk sports community last weekend. Just 38 years old, Montiero was a popular teammate and a terrific athlete. “He was a good person, a good father and a good husband. It’s just such a terrible loss for the community," says Tom Taliercio, who played with Monteiro’s on the Four Seasons touch football team. The team recently won the Recreation and Parks championship.

Monteiro was a standout athlete at now-closed Norwalk Central Catholic High School. He played football, basketball and baseball before graduating in 1989, and coached baseball and football in Norwalk youth leagues. He also loved semi-pro motor cycle racing and was a member of the National Hot Road Association. The cause of death was unavailable.

He owned Four Seasons Heating and Cooling Co. with Pete Tucci Jr. They were teammates on the Four Seasons touch football team, and Monteiro was married to Tucci’s sister, Carla. Tony Cappuccia, a long-time friend, remembered Monteiro helping to resolve a heating issue at his home while recuperating from a broken ankle late last year. “He hobbled up stairs with his crutches,’’ Cappuccia said. “That shows you the kind of guy he was.”

Besides his wife, Monteiro is survived by his parents and three children.  In lieu of flowers, his family asks that any donations be made to the Monteiro Children’s Scholarship Fund; c/o 1 Dawn Rd, Norwalk, CT 06851.
