Lake Club Hosts Tourney for Breast Cancer Group

WILTON, Conn. — The Lake Club in Wilton will host its second annual Play for P.I.N.K. tennis tournament and luncheon Thursday, Sept. 1, beginning at 9 a.m.

The primary goal is to raise awareness and funds for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in New York City. The Play for P.I.N.K. organization was established in the early 1990s by several women who wanted to do something significant for a friend undergoing treatments for breast cancer, and at the same time, help all women afflicted with the disease.

The group initiated the Play for P.I.N.K. Foundation, which stands for Prevention, Immediate diagnosis, New technology and Knowledge, and is dedicated to raising funds through sporting and lifestyle events. Nearly 20 years ago, the first Play for P.I.N.K event held was a golf tournament, and today hundreds of fundraisers are held each year nationwide, including golf, tennis, paddle, card games, swimming, equestrian events and wine tastings.

Play for P.I.N.K. has been a partner of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation for the past 11 years and has donated $22 million to the foundation.

The foundation is dedicated to preventing breast cancer and finding a cure in our lifetime by funding clinical and translational research worldwide. Over the past year, more than 88 cents of each dollar donated went directly to breast cancer research and awareness programs. For more information, visit www.bcrfcure.org.

The Lake Club Play for P.I.N.K. tennis tournament will be a women's event and is open to Lake Club members and their guests. Enrollment will be limited to the first 60 participants. Players are encouraged to wear pink tennis attire. Lake Club merchandise will be raffled, and P.I.N.K. merchandise will be for sale. A total of 100 percent of the funds raised will be contributed to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. You may find additional information regarding Play for P.I.N.K events at www.playforpink.org
