Lady Dragons Fall to Rye, 16-9

Greens Farms Academy softball lost to Rye Country Day School, 16-9, despite a few strong rallies. Rye came out hitting, scoring three runs in the first inning, but GFA answered with a two-run homerun by Idalia Friedson. Unfortunately, the Dragons' bats were silent for the next few innings while Rye continued to crank out runs with some very nice hitting. GFA did bounce back in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five runs off six hits, including a triple by Stamford native Sarah Young. In the sixth inning, GFA put together a mini-rally when Miranda Princi led off with a triple to right field. Princi and Molly Murphy were 2 for 4 on the day, and Idalia Friedson was 3 for 4. The defensive highlights for the Dragons included stellar play by Molly Murphy at third base and two assists from Sarah Young in center field, one to home and one to third base. Unfortunately, the efforts of the Dragons were not enough to overcome the consistent and powerful hitting of Rye and the clean play of its infield. The Dragons take on Masters on Tuesday, May 3, at Masters.
